MISS BLACK OREGON USA 2008
In celebrating the scholastic achievements, talents, and beauty of our African American Women,
you may be eligible to represent our state in the national competition for the Miss Black USA 2009 Scholarship Pageant.
Qualifications are as follows:
• Must submit completed application with $25 registration fee and professional photo after October 1st 2008
• Must be a resident of the state of Oregon during year of pageant
• Must be between the ages of 17 and 27
• Must have at time of application a 2.5 grade point or higher
Prizes are as follows:
• Winner will receive: $2,000 College Scholarship, 1 Year Reign as our Spokesperson for the Pageant,
Promotional & Endorsement Opportunities, Rose Bouquet, Personal Tiara w/ Case and Official Sash, Pageant T-Shirt,
Represent our State in the National Competition, Promotional Opportunities in Your Community,
and other consolation prizes.
• First Runner Up will receive: $1000 College Scholarship, 2 Tier Trophy, Flower Bouquet,
Pageant T-Shirt, Promotional Opportunities in Your Community, and other consolation prizes.
• Second Runner Up will receive: $500 College Scholarship, 2 Tier Trophy, Flower Bouquet,
Official Pageant Plaque, Pageant T-Shirt, Promotional Opportunities in Your Community and other consolation prizes.
• Third and Fourth Runner Up will receive: Special Gifts, 2 Tier Trophy, Flower Bouquet,
Official Pageant Plaque, Pageant T-Shirt, Promotional Opportunities in Your Community,
and other consolation prizes.
• All competing contestants will receive: Official Pageant Certificate, Pageant T-Shirt,
Promotional Opportunities in Your Community, and other consolation prizes.
• Special gifts & recognition will be given to the following: Academic Award Winner, Evening Gown Award Winner, & Miss Congeniality Award Winner.
Please note: If you are selected to be a contestant by our pageant committee, an entry fee is required to compete.
The entry fee includes contestant’s hotel, lodging cost, meals and other expenses. Sponsors will assit in securing fees and the Sponsons for each contestant will be featured in our program booklet.

“...I appreciate the Miss Black USA pageant in that it is a celebration of who I am. Regardless of where I am, I am a Black woman. We are the pillars of our community and the rocks of our family. We will always need organizations that will uplift everything it means to be a Black woman.”
“There are so many images out there that depict us in a negative light, especially on TV. For example, the media is trying to ‘remake’ Michelle Obama’s image as if there is something wrong with who and what she is. I met her when I first won the title and that was a historic moment for me.
Sometimes the media tries to make us not appreciate the skin we’re in. It attempts to make us want to conform and try to fit a mold. In organizations like Miss Black USA, we can be who we are and still be considered beautiful, intelligent and equal.”
